Wacky Wednesday! LAST WEEK'S POLL RESULTS!

Wow, I was absolutely amazed at the number of visitors who came to read my small rant on 50 SHADES OF GREY, it's now my second most viewed post! Because it was received with so much enthusiasm, I'm glad I presented the Poll: Are Romance Novels Equivalent To Men's Porn?

I've given the subject even more thought and after viewing the results of the Poll, I've come to the conclusion that PORN is most definitely in the EYE OF THE BEHOLDER!!

POLL RESULTS:

*   40% of those who took the Poll answered:
Possibly, since reading a Romance Novel does makes me feel ... well, more romantic.

*   33.33% of those who took the Poll answered:
Yes, most definitely. Totally turned on after reading a really good Romance Novel or even just a really good love scene.

*   20% of those who took the Poll answered:
Most definitely not. Reading Romance Novels is merely a relaxing way to escape the every day duldrums.

*   6.67% of those who took the Poll answered:
Not really, since a Romance Novel doesn't do anything more for me than watching a romance comedy movie.

So, what conclusions can be derived from these results? Let's ask a few questions of the Poll results.

Is reading Romance Novels our PORN outlet?
I don't believe it is. As much as we love our Romance Novels, we still need a flesh and blood partner.

Do we get a thrill reading Romance Novels?
Yes, I think we do but is that a bad thing? I suppose we should ask our flesh and blood partner for surely they benefit from it.

Does reading Romance Novels threaten our sense of self-worth?
Heck, NO! I believe that if anything it gives us positive images of strong women for whom we can strive to be more like.  Hmmm ... perhaps that's the real reason why men don't want us reading Romance Novels.

Is reading Romance Novels our escape from the crap we deal with daily?
Most definitely, Heck, YES!! I'd much rather curl up with a dreamy Romance Novel with a strong heroine and a sexy Alpha Male hero than do laundry any day.

So now, I'd like to pose another question to you --
Do you prefer your covers to be just pretty like say, this one?

Or something more steamy and well, fantasy inspiring that might bring on a question like my sister asked when she saw this one - Can I just sleep with the cover?

Thank you to everyone who took the Poll and also for making the last six months such a good time for me. My blog is now six months old and I'm so proud of it! Thanks for all your support and great comments. I hope to be around for a very long time.  xoxox

Happy Reading Everyone!

I like BOTH covers! Both covers would make me pick up the book and check it out at the very least to see which I'd most like to read, in the moment. Not to say I wouldn't read the other one, I'm just saying, "in the moment".

I think the choice of cover depends on the type of book. Of the covers you've chosen here, each suits the story. The cover for Fever would be wrong for Just Like Heaven and vice versa.

Did you have any luck finding your disk?

Excellent and enjoyable poll!

LOL!! Hi Gals, just couldn't resist teasing you with a little cover fun. ; )

No, Beebs, unfortunately I haven't found the blasted disk yet. I just can't figure out where I put it "for safety's sake"! Ever done that and then forgotten where the safe place was? If it's here, I'll find it. : )

Happy Hump Day Ladies!

Well, I'd be lying if I didn't say I'd prefer to have cover #2 (I'll second your sister's Q!)

BUT I don't mind the "pretty" covers like cover 1.

When I pick my weekly Lusting for Covers candidate, I look at both the pretty covers and the sexy. I've choosen more sexy covers, but I've had a lot of other covers that I liked--and they didn't have to have a half-naked yummy guy on it! *Gasp* Surprised? Lol. So am I, actually...

I think it depends on the book. Obviously with Quinn's book, for example, it just wouldn't look right with a cover model like that one on Swan's. And vice versa. There is a time for pretty and a time for sexy, and I have room for both on my shelves!

Although, seriously, I'd prefer to just cuddle with my sexy covers. But that would be just...awkward. So if you happen to find any of those cover models out of work and looking for a new home...Email me, I can take in on or two. LOL. ;)

Enjoy!

Hi Amy!

WooHoo!! Big congrats on your 6 months of FUN!! YAY you!!
I, for one, am looking forward to reading years and years of your blog posts! :-D

Interesting results of your poll, pretty wild. I have to agree with you...."I've come to the conclusion that PORN is most definitely in the EYE OF THE BEHOLDER!"....yep, whatever floats your boat is my motto. ;-)

I also have to agree with the ladies, it does how to go with the story a bit.
There's room for all kinds of bookcovers in my bookcase.

I know I buy a book just for it's cover sometimes, LOVE to stare and stare and stare at the ones with headless men and shirtless awesome bodies! LOL!
Not a proud moment for me, but hey, it's my book, right?!

Like I said, both types of covers, especially a muscular Scot, in a kilt, YAY for muscles, are okey-dokey with me.

Thank you for your post, Amy. I'm no expert on porn, and the romances I prefer are in no danger of being mistaken for it.

But I will say this: my definition of pornography goes back to the original meaning of the word. Yes, it's Greek; "porne" means prostitute, specifically a member of the lowest class of the oldest profession; "graphia" means images and writings. The idea is that artists and writers who produce this stuff are prostituting their talents. Or at least their abilities, if they don't have any real talent.

That's the way I see pornographers. They have it in them to do better, but for various reasons they've let the dark side take over.

About covers---well, I'm a big fan of cover art. My tastes are pretty broad.

I have just one request of cover artists and book designers. If a romance hero and/or heroine is on the cover, please, let's see all of their faces! It really kills my mood if their heads are chopped off.

Congrats on winning the title of "Avon Addict of the Week"! I'm looking forward to upcoming posts on your blog and Facebook page. Keep up the good work!

Hi Mary, Thank you for visiting. It's always nice to see a familiar face from FB and the other blogs stop by. To equate our lovely Romance Novels with porn is just one more denegration they throw at the Genre. It's a matter of jealousy, I believe anyway, and as long as the Romance industry does well, naysayers will be there in abundance.
Kind of have to agree with you about the heads being cut off but I'm not complaining either. ; )
My pet peeve is when the cover respresentation of a character or characters doesn't match the story's description. I hope there's some input from someone who's actually read it.
Thanks for coming by and I hope you'll visit again soon.
