Unwrapping a Review of HARD TO LET GO, a Hard Ink novel by Laura Kaye

I have to admit to being slightly sad about reading the last book in the Hard Ink series by Laura Kaye because I love this group of characters so much but if it had to end, it couldn’t have ended better than with HARD TO LET GO. This title says it all because this series is most definitely hard to let go.

Blurb for HARD TO LET GO:

Five dishonored soldiers.

Former Special Forces.
One last mission.
These are the men of Hard Ink.

Beckett Murda hates to dwell on the past. But his investigation into the ambush that killed half his Special Forces team and ended his Army career gives him little choice. Just when his team learns how powerful their enemies are, hard-ass Beckett encounters the biggest complication yet—seductive, feisty Katherine Rixey.

A tough, stubborn prosecutor, Kat visits her brothers’ Hard Ink Tattoo following a bad break-up—and finds herself staring down the barrel of a stranger’s gun. Beckett is hard-bodied and sexy as hell, but he’s also the most infuriating man ever. Worse, Kat’s brothers are at war with criminals her office is investigating. When Kat joins the fight, she lands straight in Beckett’s sights—and his arms. Not to mention their enemies’ crosshairs.

Now Beckett and Kat must set aside their differences to work together, because the only thing sweeter than justice is finding love and never letting go.

~*~            ~*~              ~*~              ~*~               ~*~

If you’ve been following this series than you already know that each of the men of Hard Ink carry some deep secret that in some manner eats away at them and for most, it stems from what happened to them when their commander and fellow members of their A-team unit were killed on a rural road in Afghanistan. For Beckett Murda there is more than the guilt of having survived, and his best friend sacrificing his leg to save his life…for Beckett, his torture goes deeper and stronger than anyone imagined. As if Shane’s guilt over his sister’s disappearance and Easy’s confession to the team of thoughts of suicide wasn’t enough to crush my heart and bring tears to my eyes, Beckett’s pain goes back to his childhood.

Kat Rixey is certainly as tough and as smart as her brothers are but when an ex-boyfriend gets too rough with her, she heads to where she knows she will be safe even if she doesn’t disclose why. She and Beckett immediately butt heads. Not even sure that she likes the tall, dark, handsome, and silent type represented by the over-protective linebacker who pointed a gun at her the first time he saw her, she can’t ignore the draw she feels toward him even as she keeps her own secrets.

From the very beginning of this series, I kept hoping Beckett Murda would get his happily-ever-after ending too because I could somehow feel that inside that big, burly, scarred, and menacing looking exterior there was a teddy bear of a man lurking inside. I was so right and I couldn’t be happier for Beckett and Kat. There story is steamy hot, heart-wrenching, edge of the seat action-packed, and sexy has hell!

What’s revealed in this story is not only the end of the investigation that has threatened all of those at Hard Ink, but also the dark secrets Beckett has kept hidden deep within him. Secrets he had not even dared tell his best friend, Derek Marza. I honestly thought that Laura couldn’t make my heart ache for one of her characters more than it ached for the pain Easy Cantrell was carrying, but I lost count of how many times I cried while reading HARD TO LET GO. I don’t think I was a third of the way through the book before Beckett had in me in tears. Can a story get any more amazing?

Yes, it can. I’m not going to give away details, I’m not going to spoil it for anyone because I want everyone to read this book and this series, if you haven’t already. Yeah, I have to admit that everything happens in a very short amount of time. The characters fall in love unrealistically fast but hey, it’s romance and it’s fiction so I highly recommend suspending reality and indulging in the world of Hard Ink. This group of characters will keep you smiling, laughing, gasping, clinging to the edge of your seat, crying, fanning yourself, and falling in love.

HARD TO LET GO, book four of the Hard Ink series by Laura Kaye is the perfect ending to an amazing mission and the best happily-ever-after that could ever be conjured for an amazing group of characters who only deserve the best that love can bring them. I highly recommend HARD TO LET GO by Laura Kaye because it’s JUST THAT GOOD and shouldn’t be missed by anyone who loves strong, charismatic characters, a great storyline, and feeling as if you’re part of the team, and falling in love right alongside Beckett and Kat.

Happy Reading Everyone!
