Unwrapping a Review of WINGS OF GOLD by Evie Knight as featured in the anthology UNIFORM FETISH + #Giveaway

We do adore our men in uniform, don’t we? Well, I do…I freely admit it, so when Evie Knight told me she was a contributing author to the anthology, UNIFORM FETISH, well, I perked right up. I also agreed to read her story and review it. I’ll be finishing the other nine as well, just not all at once. Yes, there are ten, that’s 10 stories featuring men in uniform.
I received a lovely note from Evie and thought I’d share it with you. She’s such a wonderfully nice person. By the way, she provided a complimentary copy of the anthology for me to read in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.
“Thank you so much, Amy, for hosting me today and letting me share with your readers my new release titled, WINGS OF GOLD, which is part of the Uniform Fetish Anthology. To celebrate the launch of my new release, I have a tour wide giveaway to one lucky commenter. So, let me tell you about WINGS OF GOLD.” - Evie Knight

Sleeping with him is out of the question

Life couldn’t be better for Abby. She’s got a new job,  awesome friends, a nice place. What more could she ask for? A boyfriend? No. She isn’t even looking for one, but she won’t turn down a little bit of fun. Not until she meets Lieutenant O’Brien. The man with the most magnetic eyes and wicked smile she’s ever met. The thing is men in uniform are trouble and good for one thing and one thing only….they break hearts.

He’s a master in seduction

Lieutenant O’Brien is home for his new assignment as a flight instructor. For years, his naval aviator career has been his focus, and he wants it to remain that way. At least Nate thinks so until he meets Abby, the sexy teacher who swears she won’t sleep with him. The problem is: he thrives in challenges and this is one he’ll win.

As Nate puts his slow seduction plan to work, he’s soon reminded of a promise he swore to keep. Seducing Abby is the beginning of the end to his present, and the start to a future he can’t postpone. The trick will be persuading her there’s more to them than lust.

Amy's Review:
Okay, I’d love to tell you all about this delightfully naughty and teasing short story but truly, it’s so short, I’d give it all away if I did. So I’m just going to say…WOW! I wish this was, at the very least, a full novella. I was hooked immediately by the steamy chemistry between Nate and Abby, I wanted him to fall madly in love with her, and she with him, especially since both were so against it from the second they locked gazes from across the room. Evie knows how to put the sizzle in erotic tease and she makes amazing sparks, and then some, in WINGS OF GOLD. I’m wondering if we can get her to expand on this one someday. It’s a story that needs full telling.

The Uniform Fetish anthology is like a box of delicious chocolates - no, not a reference to Forrest Gump, it just fit. Each story, like a piece of chocolate, is a tantalizing treat in its own, but all together makes for a deliciously naughty read. There are ten stories, each in varying lengths but just enough to give you a little sizzle in a break here or there, or a night in reveling in sexy men in uniform, whichever way you want to indulge. I hope you’ll try it out.

Happy Reading Everyone!

Unwrapping: Review of ARIEL'S SONG, an In Bed With The Enemy novel by Evie Knight

A gal after my own heart, Evie Knight has aspired to create romances that readers will delight in. Making her debut with ARIEL'S SONG, I was eager to read and review for her when she asked. This first In Bed With The Enemy novel is, I hope, the beginning of a very successful series. Evie is currently making the rounds on a blog tour that I was unable to join because of scheduling but if you'd like to visit the stops and enter her giveaway, just click HERE for the schedule. Of course, I hope you'll finish reading my review of ARIEL'S SONG by Evie Knight first.

***eCopy provided by author in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.

Blurb for ARIEL’S SONG:

Colin Hoskins, famous classical violinist, is tainted by his past. Angry at life, unable to move beyond the betrayal of his dead fiancĂ©, he’s sworn off performing or falling in love ever again. All Colin wants is to be left alone, except no one listens. Especially the pretty little assistant he can’t fire and his body burns to claim.

Stranded in a foreign country, bankrupted heiress Ariel Parks needs a job to fund her way home. Assistant of sorts to the musician she’s fantasized about for years sounds like a dream job. She never imagined the gorgeous genius would be a reclusive beast. But the real problem is the way every nerve in her body tingles at the mention of his name.

Ariel Parks is stranded in England. Once upon a time, money was no obstacle but now she’s mere days from sleeping on the street. Desperate for a job so that she might make her way home to New York, Ariel has answered an ad for an assistant to none other than the amazing musician, Colin Hoskins, who she has fantasized about for years. In total fan girl mode, she applies for the job only to have the real man behind her fantasies rear his arrogant head and send her running for her rented cottage.

Colin Hoskins doesn’t want or need anyone to help him, bother him, or plead for him to play the violin. He only wants to be left alone with his music, his memories of a love betrayed, and his self-imposed exile from the rest of the world. But when a young woman comes seeking a job as his assistant, he is both wary of her and intrigued by her. There’s something about Ariel. Something that sparks life into his cold dead heart, but he isn’t prepared to face it or tackle it.

With Ariel’s image of the great Colin Hoskins shattered, her life falling apart, her brother missing and her fortune gone, she’s facing the unbelievable thought of being homeless when Colin’s agent, Logan Ashby, makes her an offer.  The offer of a job that will not only employ her but may also help her find her brother. She accepts it even though it means throwing herself into the path of the man, she knows she can’t resist, despite his arrogance, unfriendly demeanor, and the unfortunate suspicion that he may be a murderer.

ARIEL’S SONG by Evie Knight is a smexy, fast-paced romance that contains hints of domination and suspense, but revels in the world of music and romance. One moment, Colin is fiery, angry, annoying, and arrogant and the next he’s making magic with his violin and writing a song in Ariel’s honor. We experience Ariel’s strength in the face of constant adversity on the part of Colin not be willing to open himself up to anyone, especially Ariel and in turn, we delight in watching his self-built walls of solitude begin to crumble under the power that love can have over a betrayed heart.

This short yet riveting story keeps you on the edge with surprises and twists as well as steamy hot scenes that will have you fanning yourself. It also contains a plethora of characters. Wonderful characters that you will delight in getting to know, laugh with, and despise. Someone with an evil agenda stalks the love that begins to grow between Ariel and Colin, and with deadly determination sets out to destroy it. But, as with all of our favorite romances, love conquers all.

I expressly recommend ARIEL’S SONG by Evie Knight to anyone who loves a smart, sexy heroine who can take the most unhappy, closed off hero who at first you wish to smack upside the head, and turn him into an incurable romantic who plans picnics. *sigh*

Happy Reading Everyone!

Unwrapping: Review of SUGARWATER RANCH by Stephanie Berget

I love bringing you debut authors and if you like sexy rugged cowboys, Stephanie Berget brings you one in SUGARWATER RANCH, her first romance. I believe this debut is only the beginning for her.

***Purchased for my own pleasure but promised her an honest and unscripted review.

Blurb for SUGARWATER RANCH:

Sean O’Connell’s life is perfect, or it was until his partying lifestyle affected his bull riding. Now he’s ended the season too broke to leave the Northwest for the warm southern rodeos. When a wild night with his buddies gets out of hand, he wakes up naked, staring into the angry eyes of a strange woman. His infallible O’Connell charm gets him nowhere with the dark-haired beauty. It’s obvious she’s not his usual good-time girl, so why can’t he forget her?

Bar-manager Catherine Silvera finds a waterlogged, unconscious cowboy freezing to death in front of the Sugarwater Bar. She saves his life–then runs faster than a jackrabbit with a coyote on its tail.  Any man who makes his living rodeoing is bad news, especially if he thinks partying is part of the competition. He’s everything she doesn’t want in a man, so why can’t she shake her attraction to the rugged cowboy?

*                 *                  *                 *                *

Catherine Silvera grew up rough. She lost her parents at a very young age and went to live with her uncle Ray. Her uncle was totally opposite of her father and showed her what it was to be cared about and have family. Her father was a drunk. The memories of those drunken tirades has left scars on her so deep that when she finds a man from her past naked and drunk outside her uncle’s bar where she works, she’s takes him and then wonders if she should regret doing so when she recognizes him. She remembers his saving her once upon a time and the crush she once had on him. She wanted him then but now must fight the urge to give in to him now. She remembers how he took his partying way to seriously, and now he’s a cowboy with a penchant for rodeos and bull riding - a drunken cowboy, who doesn’t appear to want to change his ways.

Sean O’Connell enjoys his life the way it is. No one but himself to be responsible for, traveling the rodeo circuits, and living the thrill of climbing onto the back of a hard bucking bull. But he’s let his partying get in the way too many times and now he’s broke and back home where he doesn’t want to be. After a wild night with his so-called buddies, he finds himself drunk, naked, and freezing to death in the parking lot outside the Sugarwater Bar and might have died if not for the very beautiful and angry woman who dragged him to sleep it off.

His life has always been interlocked with his love of hard living, horses, rodeos and bull-riding but now things have gone very wrong for him and with no choice but to stay put, he takes on a job as a ranch hand. His draw to drink and the woman who wishes he would straighten up becomes a challenge for him to overcome. He’s determined to get a handle on his drinking and convince Catherine to allow him to take her on a date and maybe more.

Sugarwater Ranch by Stephanie Berget is a wonderful and sweet romance built on some tough subjects and handled exceptionally well by this debut author. There were a few instances when the timeframes confused me and since this was a slow moving story, it seemed to jump a bit. But those are the little things that sometimes happen when so much is happening in a story. And there is a lot going on in this story. A slow building romance that keeps you moving forward built on the fears of a woman who knows the trouble of dealing with a man who drinks more than he should. A story about a man who is spiraling out of control and needs the love of a good woman who understands his trials and might be able to pull him back from the brink of self-destruction.

Stephanie does a wonderful job of pulling secondary characters into the scope and depth of the story. I like them all with the exception of one, and you’ll meet him. Catherine’s cousin, Junior, is great and needs his own story. Everyone contributes and it works wonderfully, even the ones that cause trouble.

I can easily recommend SUGARWATER RANCH by Stephanie Berget if you a tender love story with simmering romance. If you love contemporary westerns with rough and tumble cowboys that give new meaning to manly men, you’ll enjoy this one. I hope to see more from Stephanie Berget.
