Unwrapping a Review of JAKE, debut novel in the Men of Clifton Montana series by Susan Fisher-Davis

I’m very excited to be introducing a new author, Susan Fisher-Davis. Susan’s debut novel, JAKE, releases today, and I know this talented new voice in romance is going to go far with her new Men of Clifton Montana series featuring hot cowboys and romantic adventure. I’m also pleased as punch about this new series because I also happen to be the editor on this project. Biased a bit, but I’m still going to put on my reviewer hat and give you my honest opinion of this debut novel.

Blurb for JAKE:

Jake Stone isn’t happy about Hattie’s granddaughter suddenly appearing to take over her ranch after Hattie’s death, but he knows she’d want him to make her welcome. He just didn’t expect to like the stubborn redhead quite so much.

Becca Daniels has inherited a horse ranch from a grandmother she never knew. To sell it, she has to live on it for six months. Otherwise, it goes up for auction. Now it seems someone else wants it and is trying to run her off.

Now, with her horses stolen, her home invaded, and threats made against her if she doesn’t leave, Becca doesn’t know where to put her trust. What sinister plot is underway to force her hand? Worst of all, could the gorgeous cowboy who’s managed to steal her heart be behind it all?

Becca Daniels discovers she had a grandmother she never knew but too late. Learning of her death and that she’s the sole inheritor of Hattie Daniel’s estate in Clifton, Montana, she has no choice but to travel to this out of way place and settle things. She discovers her grandmother has a thriving horse ranch and first thinks to sell it but in order to do so, she must abide by the will and live on it for six months before making a final decision or the ranch goes up for auction. Her life is about to change and unforeseen trouble emerges when she meets a handsome and oh so, sexy cowboy who is more than willing to buy the ranch from her and steal her heart.

Jake Stone isn’t thrilled about Hattie’s city-girl granddaughter coming out of the woodwork to claim what his old friend had spent a lifetime building. He can’t help but wonder why the stranger, who had no interest in her grandmother while she was alive, would not want to let the ranch go to auction rather than live there for six months. Jake admits freely, he is more than willing to take the land off her hands rather than see it go to auction, but Becca is stubborn. He likes that about her. He likes a lot about the feisty redhead who stirs more than a protective instinct in him. When strange things begin to happen around the ranch, and to Becca, he begins to wonder who else might be more than interested in the ranch, or perhaps in Becca.

JAKE, the first book in the Men of Clifton Montana series by Susan Fisher-Davis paints a picture of family, community, and traditions existing in the untamed landscape of Montana as well as treating us to sizzling romance. Susan makes us fall in love with all the men of Clifton, Montana but especially Jake. He’s a big brother, friend, protector, flirt, tease, able to tame the most ornery horse, and it seems, the most stubborn of women.

As I stated above, I’m the editor on this amazing new series so I’m slightly biased to the writing, but even when I read this manuscript for the first time in the first round of editing, I fell in love with Jake. I decided I wanted to step into Becca’s shoes, became best friends with Olivia and Emma, and lusted after the Stone brothers, and the town sheriff. If I truly believed there were men like the ones in Clifton, I’d move to Montana next week.

I highly recommend reading JAKE, book one in the Men of Clifton Montana series by Susan Fisher-Davis to anyone who loves a good romance, with a hint of mystery, fabulous cast of characters, and very sexy cowboys. Yippie Kah Yay!

Happy Reading Everyone!
