Tasty Review Blog Tour for HOW TO MARRY A HIGHLANDER by Katharine Ashe + #Giveaway!

Welcome to my Stop on the Tasty Book Review Tour for HOW TO MARRY A HIGHLANDER by Katharine Ashe. As a fan of Katharine’s Falcon Club Series, I was very excited to learn that the Earl of Eads, Duncan to his friends, was getting his own happily-ever-after. Enjoy my review and stick around for a special non-Tour giveaway – you’ll only be able to enter here!

***I was provided an eARC via Edelweiss from the publisher but opted to purchase my own copy with the knowledge that I would provide an honest and unscripted review.

Blurb for HOW TO MARRY A HIGHLANDER:

An intrepid lady takes on an impossible task to win an irresistible lord.

With seven troublesome half-sisters to marry off, Duncan, the Earl of Eads, has one problem: he’s broke. With the prospect of marriage to the pompous local curate, Miss Teresa Finch-Freeworth has one dream: to wed the handsome Highlander she saw at a ball.

How does a desperate lady convince a reluctant laird that she’s the perfect bride for him? She strikes a wager! If she can find seven husbands for seven sisters, the earl must marry her. But when Duncan gives her a deadline even the most audacious matchmaker can’t meet — one month — Teresa sets terms too: with each bridegroom she finds, the earl must pay her increasingly intimate rewards . . .

*                    *                   *                   *                    *

Teresa Finch-Freeworth is enamored with one man, with broad shoulders and beautiful blue eyes, while facing the prospect of marriage to the odious and pious Mr. Waldon. After learning that the Earl of Eads, the man who has filled her thoughts and her dreams these past eighteen months is to be in London seeking husbands for his seven sisters, yes seven of them, Teresa concocts a plan that will either win her the man of her dreams or ruin her forever.

Duncan, the Earl of Eads, is a man with a past and a man with a heart that will never love again – if he has his way. Fearful of falling in love and losing another woman to childbirth, Duncan escaped London eighteen months ago after spying the most beautiful woman to cross his path since he lost his beloved wife and son. Now that woman, stubborn, beautiful, tempting and persistent, has offered him a wager that if he loses will make him face his fears and his desire for her.

Teresa is determined to win a kiss, a touch, and make love to the handsome Scotsman who stole her heart across a ballroom. With the assistance of her faithful brother, Tobias, she slowly introduces the Scotswomen to London, and to London Society. Luck is with her as each finds love, except one. There is the problem of one sister who has no desire to marry – ever. Will this destroy her chance to win Duncan’s heart?

I am a huge fan of Katharine Ashe’s Falcon Club series and HOW TO MARRY A HIGHLANDER is a wonderful addition to the group even though it is a bit of departure from the normal intensity of romance we are used to seeing from Ms. Ashe. Teresa finds herself in the role of matchmaker extraordinaire with the task of finding husbands for each of Duncan’s seven sisters in order to win him as a husband, or so she hopes. Katharine introduces us to a wonderful group of women, all with different personalities and assets. Poor as church mice, with no hopes for marriages back in Scotland, these seven young women need all the help they can get, and Teresa becomes their fairy godmother/matchmaker.

As usual, Katharine’s characters are full of life. There’s humor, some touching moments, jealousies, and a few accidents that some of us might be able to relate to in our own experiences. We are blessed with visits from Lady Heliotrope Beaufetheringstone, whom some of you may know if you visit The Ballroom Blog, as well as the handsome and debonair, Mr. Derek Knightly from Maya Rodale’s The Writing Girl Series. This novella is an adventure beyond just being a romance between two people, it's matchmaker heaven.

I enjoyed this novella so much, even though the time that Duncan and Teresa was not as much as I would’ve liked, the story was delightful, the characters intriguing and lively, and Duncan was  … well, Duncan, a man of few words. I would love to read more regarding this handsome Scotsman and his seven effervescent sisters.

I highly recommend HOW TO MARRY A HIGHLANDER by Katharine Ashe to anyone who loves romance in numbers and a good matchmaking story.

Unwrapping: Review of HOW A LADY WEDS A ROGUE by Katharine Ashe

A fan of the Falcon Club series by Katharine Ashe, I knew I definitely wanted to read HOW A LADY WEDS A ROGUE featuring the Raven, Wyn Yale and the incorrigible, Diantha Lucas so I decided to purchase this one for my own pleasure and of course, share my thoughts on it with you.

Blurb of HOW A LADY WEDS A ROGUE:

Gentleman’s Rule #1: If a lady is virtuous, he should deny her nothing.
Beautiful Diantha Lucas understands society’s rules: a young lady must find a man to marry. But Diantha has a bigger goal, and she’s not afraid of plunging into adventure to achieve it. When daring, dashing Wyn Yale rescues her, she’s certain he’s just the man she needs.

As an agent for the secret Falcon Club, Wyn knows his duty, but he’s not about to admit he’s a hero of any sort. He has a plan, too: steal a prized horse, murder an evil duke, avenge an innocent girl, and probably get hanged for it—in that order. Wyn can’t afford to be distracted by a pretty face, even one with delectable dimples and kissable lips. But how can a country miss and a hardened spy solve their problems when they can’t keep their hands off each other?

                                                 *                        *                      *                       *                     *

Diantha Lucas needs to speak with her mother, a mother who left her four years earlier without so much as a farewell. Having discovered through a bit of snooping that her mother is in Calais, Diantha has left school early to travel to France to confront her, never considering the dangers that might await a young beautiful woman traveling alone since her maid has decided to run off with a young man. But then again, Diantha Lucas is a girl who dreams of heroes, a gentleman hero in particular and discovers the one she dreams of most traveling alongside her in the Mail Coach - Mr. Wyn Yale.

Wyn Yale, aka the Raven is on a mission to deliver a racing filly to the man he intends to assassinate which will probably be the end of his career as a member of the Falcon Club and the end of his life. He understands the consequences but has lived with the guilt the Duke of Yarmouth caused him through the death of an innocent girl Wyn had intended to protect. The last thing he expected was to find him, once more, protecting a young woman from the dangers of villainous scoundrels, including himself.

I have been awaiting Wyn Yale's story since first meeting him as a member of the Falcon Club. His charm, his gentle nature with women, and his tortured soul drew me immediately and in HOW A LADY WEDS A ROGUE, he is everything I expected and hoped he'd be. Even more tortured by the sense of responsibility he has for Diantha and his loyalty to her family, Wyn finds himself battling his own needs for both Diantha and the bottle. In an attempt to keep his wits around Diantha and to protect her from his own lustful pursuits, Wyn stops drinking and nearly destroys himself in the process.

I have great admiration for Katharine Ashe tackling such a delicate and intense subject as alcoholism in a romance novel. Seeing this tragic and out of control side of a man such as Wyn Yale, brings out the hero in him and the heroine in Diantha in a way we don't normally see in historical romance. It works and it works marvelously. There were times when the story moved a bit slow toward the middle but then it came alive with the emotion of Wyn's vulnerability and Diantha's ability to take charge and not panic when faced with dealing with a man who stood on the precipice of hell. Her faith in Wyn was the most incredible asset Diantha brought to the story.

HOW A LADY WEDS A ROGUE by Katharine Ashe is an extraordinary tale of a woman who appreciates the rules and manners of society, and appreciates a gentleman hero but accepts the faults as part of the man even when the manners are perfection. It's a tale of a man tortured by guilt, an abusive childhood, and the tragedy of alcoholism yet can see the youth and beauty in a wildly rebellious girl who brings out the best in him despite his own resistance.

I highly recommend HOW A LADY WEDS A ROGUE, a Falcon Club novel by Katharine Ashe if you've read any of this wonderful series or even if you haven't. If you're tempted to read a historical romance that will have you quickly caught up and wringing your hands in wonder as to whether Diantha and Wyn will ever have their happily-ever-after, then this is a must read.

Happy Reading Everyone!

Unwrapping: Review of HOW TO BE A PROPER LADY by Katharine Ashe

Already a fan of Katharine Ashe, it took no decision making whatsoever to decide whether or not to read HOW TO BE A PROPER LADY but throw in a heroine who happens to be the master of her own ship and an ex-pirate named Jin and I knew positively I'd be in heaven. I purchased this one for my own personal reading but of course, knew I would share it with you.

Blurb for HOW TO BE A PROPER LADY:

The Rules of Being a Proper Lady
1) Never take steps greater than six inches apart.
2) Never look boldly at a gentleman.
3) And never, ever, kiss a man who is not your fiancÉ.

But beautiful, bold Viola Carlyle doesn't care about the rules. And she desperately wants to kiss the notoriously tempting Captain Jin Seton, the man who brought her kicking and fighting back to English society. Kidnapped as a child, now she longs to return to that life of freedom where she was able to live—and love—as she wished.

Having hunted Viola for two years, Jin Seton has finally found his good luck—for, by finding Viola, his oldest, deepest debt will at last be paid. And although he has vowed not to let her win his heart, this very improper lady might finally be the one who tames him.

                    *                 *                  *                 *                  *                  *

Viola Carlyle was born into English society but at a young age she was taken away from it all by the man who was her true father, Fionn Daly. For the next fifteen years she lived her life on the high seas. She learned the ways of life aboard ship better than anything she knew before. After her father's death, she became the master of the April Storm. As Captain Violet la Vile Daly, she is loved and respected by her crew but can hold her own in a battle and has now sunk the notorious Cavalier.

Jinan Seton has led a hard life. Sold into slavery by his mother's husband as a boy and bought by another boy who freed him. Alex Savege became his family. Having long felt the need to payback the debt owed to this man he now calls friend and compatriot, he takes it upon himself to do just that. When he discovers that Serena Carlyle Savege, the wife of his old friend, believes her little sister Viola is alive, Jin decides to take it upon himself to find the girl and return her to her family.

Viola has a mind of her own and she does not take orders - not from anyone - especially from a subordinate. When she agrees to take Captain Jin Seton on as her quartermaster after sinking his ship, the Cavalier, she keeps a close eye on him for more than just the reason of possible mutiny - she can't seem to keep her eyes off of him.

Jin's mission is to convince the brash and beautiful captain that she wants to return to England and to her family but knows he's up against a stubborn streak the ocean wide. When Viola inadvertently wagers him that she can make him fall in love with her, he finds his opportunity. If she loses, she must return willingly to England with him - if he loses, he must forfeit his new ship being readied for him after they return from Port of Spain. The last thing he expects is to lose but when she eventually agrees to return with him to England, he holds back the truth of his feelings for he will never be worthy of her. After all, Viola Carlyle was born a lady and he, only a slave.

HOW TO BE A PROPER LADY by Katharine Ashe is everything I love in a historical romance. High seas adventure with a woman as equally good a sailor as any man. Katharine knows her high seas adventures and definitely knows her shipboard life. It's a story about a tough but vulnerable young heroine captivated by a man who was once known as the pirate, Pharaoh. It's about a man who carries a sense of abandonment and secrets that surprise and astonish the young breeches-wearing and beautiful captain.

Katharine Ashe creates a whole cast of characters that make you smile, laugh, and cheer. Yet, swells your heart with emotion for a girl who's left behind in England without a sail in sight as the man who now owns her heart leaves without even a farewell. With accuracy and flair, with endearing emotion, Katharine will have you feeling the wind in your hair, the sea spray on your face and the swell of the sea beneath the ship while you sail the rocky course that is Viola and Jin's tense, exciting, and sensuous romance in HOW TO BE A PROPER LADY.

I highly recommend HOW TO BE A PROPER LADY by Katharine Ashe if you love historical romance with secrets of a King's agent club swirling in the background and a romantic pair that will have you dreaming of the hero and wishing you were the heroine.

Happy Reading Everyone!
