COVER REVEAL for STRIPPING HER DEFENSES, book 2 in the Ex Ops series by Jessie Lane

STRIPPING HER DEFENSES
Book Two in the Ex Ops Series
by Jessie Lane

Coming in April 2014

Riley Sullivan and the Ex Ops Team are headed to Miami undercover… as bikers. Following up a lead from a longtime friend of Commander Wall’s, the men will perform their investigation acting as nomad members of the Regulators Motorcycle Club with the club’s permission. Surrounded by hardcore bikers and investigating missing strippers, Riley finds the last person he ever expected to see again—his ex-wife.

Kara Sullivan left the man she loved after a tragic accident cost them their unborn son. After years of therapy, she’s come to grips with the loss and has re-emerged from the pain a brand new person. That doesn’t mean she’s ready to face the man who inadvertently broke her heart, and who she’s hurt in return.

Riley has never stopped loving her and he never will. He’s ready to fix their marriage and move on with their lives, however Kara’s reluctance to renew their relationship isn’t their only problem. Danger lurks just around the corner… and there’s a chance she could disappear permanently.

About the Author:

Crystal and Melissa often live half their lives with their heads in the clouds dreaming of alpha military hunks, werewolves, and kick ass heroines crazy enough to chase after creatures that they unquestionably should know better than to chase.

Their first YA novel, THE BURNING STAR, was released in May 2012. BIG BAD BITE is their second novel, but their first adult paranormal romance. They are now working on their next two novels, WALK ON THE STRIPED SIDE and SECRET MANEUVERS. With these projects underway, they are looking forward to showing the rest of the world their crazy stories, heroes and heroines that often plague their minds until written, and hope you will join them on their journey!

Unwrapping: Review of RUSH, a Phoenix Rising Novel by Joan Swan

If you’ve been reading my blog, and following my reviews, you probably already know what a huge fan of Joan Swan I am. I first fell in love with her writing when I won a copy of FEVER, book one in the Phoenix Rising series. I was so anxious to read it that I couldn’t wait for the copy to come from her so I bought it as soon as it released. I kept her signed copy and gave away my purchased copy here on the blog. I’ve read, no absorbed, everything she’s written since, so when she asked if I’d like to read an ARC of book three, RUSH, I jumped at the chance.

***Print ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.

Blurb for RUSH by Joan Swan:

Jessica Fury, Washington lobbyist, has money, connections, and her own firm. But five years ago she had something better: happiness. Her firefighter husband, Quaid, was handsome, courageous, and crazy about her. Then one day he walked into a chemical inferno—and never walked out. Jessica has been through hell to get back on her feet. And then a rumor surfaces that could bring a miracle or shatter her world – again.
Q has been a prisoner forever. He’s honed his mind and body into weapons. He’s developed abilities no one else understands. But he’s still at the mercy of a cabal of ruthless men, who blank his memory, test him like a lab rat, and tell him lies. Although his past has been erased and his future looks grim, instinct tells him he has a woman to live for. What his mind can’t remember, his body can’t forget…

The heat is on.

*              *              *              *              *

Jessica Fury has been existing in a living hell the past five years since the tragic warehouse fire that changed the lives of the Phoenix team forever. Not only was everyone there that fateful day affected by the strange chemicals but she also lost her husband, the only man who would ever claim her heart - Quaid Legend. Success in Washington keeps her sane and busy but that was only after using all kinds of drugs to quiet her abilities and stem her depression. Life wasn’t really worth living without Quaid. When Keira O’Shay and Teague Creek visit and leave her with a coin that may or may not have belonged to her husband, Jessica starts a journey that she doesn’t want to travel because unlike her friends, she refuses to believe that the man called Q is her husband.

Quaid Legend has no memory before his life at the Castle. He has no friends save one he knows as Cash. He survives his permanent interment only by hoping that when he sleeps the woman who haunts those nights will visit him. Removed from his cell, with no knowledge of where he is or what will happen other than more tests, he’s teased with the image of the woman of his dreams appearing to him. She talks to him, she touches him, and she kisses him.  After being brutally beaten by his captor, he awakes to find the woman of his dreams is real. Now he’s being told that she, and her friends, are part of his past. They want to help him remember who he is, where he came from, and what Jessica meant to him but too much has happened, and he’s changed.

Danger lurks close. Dargan might be gone, but there are others who will stop at nothing to get Quaid back under their control. While Jessica questions whether she can have the life she thought she’d lost with this new Quaid, Q must find himself in the mix of who he was, what he has become, and what will be left of him in the end.

RUSH by Joan Swan is everything I expected it to be after reading the first two books, however, I did find the beginning a bit slow. Normally, when I read one of Joan’s books, I’m immediately caught up in the story and can’t put it down. RUSH was different. The beginning lacked the energy, the action, the excitement that I have come to expect but before long, it was all there. It took a few chapters but then I was completely hooked and soon I was reading late into the night.

Joan’s characters are intense, individual, and each one is important to the story being told. RUSH is no different in that respect. The team is together, working, laughing, teasing, and battling against the bad guys to protect not only Jessica but now Quaid, Cash and Mateo. Mitch has become an intricate part of the team as if he’s been with them from the beginning. I honestly didn’t feel I connected with Quaid and Jessica the way that I had with the other couples, but I still enjoyed their journey together to save themselves, their friends, and their love. There were some mighty steamy scenes between the two, filled with passion and angst as only Joan can give us. RUSH may not be the best of the series so far, but it is still a must read if you want to delve deeper into the world of the Phoenix Rising series.

RUSH, book three in the Phoenix Rising series by Joan Swan may not be the one to start with but it’s one you must read to learn even more secrets, and experience more adventure with these incredible characters that keep heating up the pages with their loyalty, their humor, and their steamy romances. I am still in love with this series and eagerly anticipating the next one. If you haven’t experienced this series yet, do so. Start with FEVER, you will be forever hooked by Joan Swan and her sexy, sexy good guy warriors.

Happy Reading Everyone!

Unwrapping: Review of CIRCLE OF DECEPTION by Carla Swafford

Since I'm already a fan of Carla Swafford's exciting, action-packed, and steamy erotic Circle suspense romances, when Avon Romance offered me an eARC of her newest and last one releasing at the end of December, I not only leaped at the chance but clawed at the ereader as if it might hurry the download! CIRCLE OF DECEPTION didn't disappoint, in fact, I think this is my favorite one yet. I'm going to miss the Circle and all of the excitement of this series. How 'bout that cover? Hot enough? Wait till you read what's inside.

***eARC provided by publisher in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.

Blurb for CIRCLE OF DECEPTION:

Carla Swafford's erotic Circle series comes to an exhilarating finale as the team of sexy spies and assassins goes undercover—under the covers.

After disappearing days before her wedding to fellow Circle agent Rex Drago, Abby Rodriguez discovered that trying to reclaim a life—and a love—lost is a whole lot harder than she thought. When her family's safety is threatened by an arms dealer, Abby must go undercover with the one man who sees right through her as they play the scariest roles yet: husband and wife.

Mission or no mission, Rex Drago wants answers from his ex-fiancĂ©e. Forced to play along as a rival arms dealer and the husband he once wanted to be, Rex is finding it hard to stay professional—especially since Abby is just as hot as ever. And when they find themselves in a very intimate position, Abby and Rex must act the part—or risk blowing their cover entirely.

                   *                  *                   *                   *                    *                    *

The Circle is a covert operation that flies far below the radar even more so than the FBI or the CIA. In fact, most of what the Circle does would be considered illegal throughout the world but their work insures that groups like the Inferno don't succeed and the world stays safe for at least another day. But even covert operatives have secrets that they keep from each other.

Rex Drago and Abby Rodriguez were once in love, or possibly lust but either way, they planned to marry until Rex was told that Abby was dead. Then Abby was told that Rex was dead. Fate had thrown them a curve ball that separated them and led them to other people, Abby to Rex's brother, Jack - and Rex to Nic Savage - but what neither knew about the other was that it was love and it had survived their separation.

The Inferno (the bad guys) are up to no good with a new bullet that not only blows its target to smithereens but can be programmed to actually zero in on a particular person. This means everyone is in danger and can't possibly hide. It's up to the Circle operatives to discover the source and stop the production. Rex has been working undercover as Rurik Volkov, an arms dealer, and already has the inside scoop so Abby is assigned to go undercover with him as his wife. Neither are very happy about their assignments but do manage to make the best of a bad situation.

Bad guys abound, twists and turns keep the reader thinking and even as my suspicions were already heading in the right direction, the identity of the real bad guy, shook me. Action-packed, intrigue-filled, lust driven and emotional when not everyone survives the mission, CIRCLE OF DECEPTION by Carla Swafford is one you won't want to put down once you start reading.

If you haven't read any of this amazing series from Avon Red, you need to - as soon as possible. If you love exciting intrigue, covert action and mystery, you will love this series and this final installment is the best. I'm sorry to see it end because I don't think the mission is finished but I'm not Carla. Of course, maybe if we all bug her, she will continue - after all, the bad guys are still out there.

I highly, highly recommend CIRCLE OF DECEPTION by Carla Swafford if you love James Bond adventure, STRIKE BACK hotties and undercover action, and especially if you love under the covers steamy action. CIRCLE OF DECEPTION is red-hot, action-driven, and the charisma between Rex and Abby will have you reaching for a fan to cool you down - or someone  with whom you want to share all that heat. Put this one on your wishlist now!

Happy Reading Everyone!

Unwrapping: Review of BLAZE by Joan Swan

When Joan Swan asked me if I'd like to read an ARC of her second book in the Phoenix Rising Series, BLAZE, I not only jumped at it, I jumped up and down! I absolutely loved the first book, FEVER, and so had high expectations for the second one - I wasn't disappointed. And how 'bout that cover?

**ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.

Blurb for BLAZE:

The hotter they come, the harder they fall…
With a man like him, every mission becomes personal…

Ever since FBI agent Keira O’Shay started tracking a young boy named Mateo, she’s felt a connection even her empathic abilities can’t explain. She needs to save Mateo from the cult leader holding him hostage. Nothing can interfere with that—not even the reappearance of Luke Ransom, the hot-as-hell fire captain she’s regretted walking out on for three long years.
Losing Keira left Luke vulnerable—in every way. When they were together, the powers each possesses were mysteriously enhanced. But it’s the sexy, surprising woman beneath the tough exterior that Luke’s really missed. Even if she betrayed him utterly. And even if agreeing to help her uncover a government conspiracy means watching his life and his heart go up in flames again…

                            *                      *                      *                      *                    *

Keira O'Shay lives on the edge as an FBI agent and expert sniper. She chose this life over the one she had as a firefighter after surviving a warehouse explosion that left herself and her surviving fellow firefighters with unusual abilities. She left behind that life and the only man she ever really loved, Luke Ransom. He'd asked too much of her. More than she was able to give. He wanted a family and having never known the love that comes with that, she felt trapped by demands she couldn't meet. So she did what she always does, she ran away.

Luke Ransom has never gotten over Keira. He doesn't allow his friends to speak of her and has tried to replace her in his bed and in his heart without success. Never did he expect to be thrown together with the one woman who could read him better than any other - including his very thoughts.

Now Keira and Luke have survived the rescue of a small boy, Mateo, who Keira has been searching for this past year only to discover this adorable child has similiar abilities to her own and the government spooks who are always watching them are now eager to get this young boy back. Keira and Luke will do whatever it takes to keep Mateo safe until as a group, this unique family of friends, can figure out what is going on and how to keep them all safe.

With BLAZE, Joan Swan has truly proven herself to be a consummate story-teller! BLAZE by Joan Swan is the second book in the Phoenix Rising series and it's jam-packed with action, off the chart steamy romance, paranormal thrills, shoot 'em ups and a tearful reunion as well as a HEA that will have you clamoring for more and wishing the story kept going. Of course, it will in the next installment but oh, how I didn't want this book to end. End it did but with so many questions floating in the air that I am eagerly awaiting the next in the series.

Joan Swan has created a cast of characters that individually are fantastic but together draw you in as a member of their own elite group. Joan knows how to pack a wallop with action from the first page to the last that keeps you on the edge of your seat consistently as she weaves an intricate story of paranormal phenomenon, government intrigue and cover-up. All the while she tugs at your heartstrings as you travel this second chance at love with Keira and Luke.

I highly recommend BLAZE by Joan Swan if you love a great story, a hero who will have you dreaming about him, a heroine you wish you could be as tough and physically confident as, friends who you'd truly die for and sexy steamy romance that will have you wishing it was you and very, very real.

Happy Reading Everyone!
