Unwrapping: Review of V IS FOR VAMPWOMAN by Kerrelyn Sparks, book one in the anthology, VAMPIRES GONE WILD

As most of my readers know, I love paranormal romance! I'm currently working on my own paranormal romance WIP and  I'm particularly fond of vampires. So ... when an eARC of the anthology, VAMPIRES GONE WILD, featuring stories from three of my favorite paranormal romance writers, Kerrelyn Sparks, Pamela Palmer and Amanda Arista came available, I swooped in and snagged it. Since this also gives me a great opportunity to talk a bit about each of these fabulous series, I'm going to present their reviews one at a time.

***eARC provided by publisher via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.

Blurb for Story One -
V IS FOR VAMPWOMAN by Kerrelyn Sparks:

Pamela decides to shed her prim and proper ways for spandex and a mask to help fight the Malcontents. Now if only she weren't so distracted by the sexy vampire fighting by her side ...

Kerrelyn Sparks writes the Love At Stake series which if you haven't taken a taste of this series yet, you really should. Kerrelyn has a wickedly devilish sense of humor and it shines through so well in this series that even those who aren't into vampires and shifters quickly fall in love with these tales. The characters are rich with back story and dreams for their futures either with another vampire, shifter, or human. They all seem to come together easily, happily and very romantically.

In V IS FOR VAMPWOMAN, Lady Pamela Smythe-Worthing is tired of being a pampered lady who feels like a coward, and who feels like she's failed everyone who has ever counted on her. She's determined to change things. She's taken martial arts training and even created a villain fighting costume out of spandex complete with mask and cape to prove she's no longer a tea party lady of luxury but a kick-ass Malcontent fighting VampWoman.

Mikhail Kirillov is a tall, muscular, all man, Malcontent-fighting warrior who works for MacKay Security and Investigations and he's known who Lady Pamela is for centuries and been in love with her for two centuries. When Pam suddenly appears in the midst of a battle with the Malcontents (vampires who have chosen to go against vampire policy and feed from humans instead of manufactured blood), Mikhail is torn between doing his job and protecting this crazy woman who looks so amazing in her black spandex that all he can think about is getting her naked on a pile of furs. Mikhail has always thought Pam to be like his wife had been, selfish and vain but was now seeing a different side of the most beautiful vampire to walk the earth and he likes what he sees. He likes her so much that he can't contain his words and tells her - prepare to be plundered. (Such a sexy, sexy line! Mikhail is welcome to plunder me any time!!)

The novella, V IS FOR VAMPWOMAN by Kerrelyn Sparks is a great addition to the Love At Stakes series and a sheer delight to see Mikhail getting his story. I do wish this had been a full-length because I would have loved watching them fight, spar, tease, and fall in love with each other. Pam is a delight - shades of Lucy Arnaz dressed in spandex and fighting evil vampires.

Kerrelyn Sparks writes with humor and detail so wonderfully that a reader can pick up any of her books from the Love At Stake series and be immediately sucked in. This action-packed, sexy novella is no different. Pam is wacky quirky and endearing. She pulls at our heartstrings when she inadvertantly admits why she wants to much to be useful and Mikhail, well ... what can I say? We've met him in the past and knew he was someone we wanted to fall in love with and now is our chance. As I said earlier, I only wish this had been a full-length but then again, maybe Kerrelyn will take us on a journey with them in Moscow.

If you haven't tried out the Love at Stakes series then I highly recommend this story as a great way to get your feet wet. There's just enough back story about who Mikhail, Zoltan, Jack, and Angus are to help you feel at home but more than enough extra to make you ask enough questions to want to read more. Kerrelyn knows how to make us laugh - and make us fall in love.

This is only the first of four fabulous stories in this anthology coming February 12, 2013. I  hope you'll stay with me as I take you on a journey through it with each one.  Wednesday, I'll be talking about Pamela Palmer's Vamp City series and book two of the anthology, A FOREVER LOVE!

Happy Reading Everyone!

I am a HUGE fan of paranormal romance! Ever since starting out with Laurell K. Hamilton I've been hooked. So glad you're on board with this genre...can't wait for the anthology (a good way to meet new authors of the same ilk). Thanks!
