Wacky Wednesday: SERIOUS ABOUT SERIES!

It's Wacky Wednesday and yes, I've got a fabulous Giveaway for you but first I'd like to ask you what you think about SERIES - not sequels but series.

Series are books written so that each book works as a stand-alone novel but as a group, they tell a greater story. Many of the romance novels I review here at UNWRAPPING ROMANCE are books in a series. Series like the Mistress Matchmaker Series by Jess Michaels (I just reviewed her new release if you'd like to check out this wickedly naughty historical romance - FOR DESIRE ALONE), or the Devil DeVere Series by Victoria Vane (I'll have a review of her newest novella coming soon - we love that Devil, don't we?), or the Feral Warrior Series by Pamela Palmer (Go Feral - LOVE UNTAMED is coming next month - yes, I'm reviewing).

They may be called by another name such as Gaelen Foley's The Inferno Club or Maya Rodale's The Writing Girls but they are still by definition, a series.

I love series. I love that the characters I meet in the first book I will meet again when their stories intertwine with others and eventually they get their own happily-ever-after.  A series gives me something to look forward to as the next comes along. Of course, there's a certain amount of sadness when a series finally runs its course but hopefully it will be a long time down the road.

Cathy Maxwell has begun a new series called the Chattan Curse. The first book in this series is called LYON'S BRIDE. Now, I do have a copy of this one - in fact, I have four copies of this one - as well as a copy of THE SCOTTISH WITCH, the second Chattan Curse novel but I have not read either - YET!

Blurb for LYON'S BRIDE:

The Chattan Curse: When a Chattan male falls in love, strike his heart with fire from above...

They call him Lord Lyon, proud, determined-- and cursed. He is in need of a bride, but if he falls in love, he dies. His fervent hope is that by marrying-- and having a son--without love, perhaps he can break the curse's chains forever.

Enter beautiful Thea Martin--a duke's headstrong, errant daughter and society's most brilliant matchmaker. Years ago, she and Lyon were inseparable, until he disappeared from her life without a word. Now she is charged with finding Lyon's bride--a woman he cannot love for a man Thea could love too well.

Thanks for the fabulous giveaway! I love series. I love getting to know characters and seeing their relationships evolve. And when each book is centered around different couples, I love the "cameos" that the other couples play b/c I'm a sucker for seeing them enjoy their HEA. However... on the flip side, if the series revolves around 1 or 2 characters, then I hope the author continues to challenge and grow the characters. There have been a few series that I've quit b/c the character growth was stagnate and the stories started to go downhill/repeat.

Agreed, Ladies, it's like have a whole bunch of friends and peeking into their lives. ; )

Erin, I agree with what you're saying and it's one reason that I'm more a fan of series rather than sequels (totally different animal). With sequels, the story follows a couple and the secondary characters from book to book. Admittedly, sequels are harder to pull off but they can also fail faster.

Good Luck to both of you! : )

I love series books! I just finished reading the Black Dagger Brotherhood and can't wait for the next book in that series. I also faithfully follow the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris, and last but not least- LOVED the 50 Shades Series, and am always looking for more of these types to read- I love staying with characters for a while, they start to feel like friends and family :)

I enjoy reading any historical series, they are wonderful!
I also am a person who likes to read about past characters. I like it when they appear in the connecting books, they're not just forgotten from their book.
Lots of writers have some awesome series out there, lucky us!
I enjoyed reading LYON'S BRIDE and look forward to reading THE SCOTTISH WITCH. Cathy Maxwell is one of my must-read authors.
Great giveaway Amy, who ever wins will be very happy!

Series are fun.. There are so many ways to go, from the ones that just peak into the lives of ones we love to the ones that have this grand overall story arc to the ones that tell one story. It's great that we get to go back and see our friends..

I'm all for series! :) I keep saying that I won't read another series out of order...and then I do. lol. It's so hard though! I'l have one in my pile, but not the previous books. And after a while I can't resist reading the one I do have...and then I regret not waiting when I'm a bit lost. Oh well. One day I'll learn..maybe!

Enjoy!

I love reading series. Cathy Maxwell's Scandals and Seductions series is one of my favs and also Jillian Hunter's Boscastle series. Oh! Really I have a long list of fav series. There is just something very appealing and comforting watching the characters interact and develop throughout the books. It's like catching up with old friends.
